Mercury awards, katy B analysis

In this promotional photo taken of Katy B, we feel that her genre of music would be upbeat that people would be able to dance to.

This is because she is wearing a leather jacket, which makes her look stylish. Her hair is down and looks flyaway as if she had just been dancing herself. She has dark, heavy eye make up and is pouting which makes her look like a glamour girl and she is made to look glamorous.

The composition of this photo is well thought out; she’s leaning against a wall which shows she is trying to put across a very laid back image to her music. The wall she is leaning against is a neutral grey colour which is used to make her stand out, just like she wants to stand out from other artists and be unique.

Dubstep's early roots are in the more experimental releases of UK garage producers, seeking to incorporate elements of drum and bass into the South London-based 2-step garage sound. These experiments often ended up on the B-side of a white label or commercial garage release. Dubstep is generally instrumental. Similar to a vocal garage hybrid - grime - the genre's feel is commonly dark; tracks frequently use a minor key. Other distinguishing features often found are the use of samples, a propulsive, sparse rhythm, and an almost omnipresent sub-bass.
